The Scarborough lifeboat station is open to visitors and is one of the oldest stations in the UK and Republic of Ireland and was founded in 1801. The station was taken over by the RNLI in 1861.
Scarborough’s lighthouse stands on Vincent’s Pier, built in the 18th century and named after its engineer, William Vincent. Defining a date of initial construction for the lighthouse itself is difficult due to the lack of archive material, but research suggests that building commenced sometime between 1801 and 1806, after which a permanent brick structure existed, paid for by many of the vessels entering the habour.
The Church of St. Martin-on-the-Hill; this is a Victorian, Bodley-designed building, with fine interior pre-Raphaelite artwork. Inside the building is a magnificent Henry Willis organ encased in Bodley's organ case. An icon depicting Christ crucified stands under the rood screen, on the chancel steps, surrounded by about 50 candles in a very emotive and powerfully beautiful way
